Have you heard about the new Google TV?  It is a pretty cool thing to have if you are a lover of television shows and movies.  Well now you can control your Google TV right from your mobile phone with the help of the Google TV Remote Android app.

Features:

  • The Google TV Remote is a cool way to be able to turn your Android phone into a universal remote that can be used in conjunction with your Google TV device
  • You will be able to use the control pad, use the mouse and arrow keys that are provided, and also have access to the entire range of the buttons found there
  • While using your Google TV Remote Android app you can also get videos and web URL’s and share them with the TV so it becomes a browser
  • One of the cooler features on the app though is the voice search that you can use to get content without pressing any buttons
  • All you have to do is to make sure that your Android phone is hooked up to the same network as your Google TV in order to get started

Conclusion:

All the way back when the Google TV was first introduced there was a really cool demo of the Google TV being controlled right from an Android smartphone and everyone was pretty impressed.  Not only that, there was also a demonstration where someone actually used their voice to be able to search for things and load the results right onto their tv online without having to press any extra buttons.  Well that universal remote app has finally been released (which is different than the logitech version that was created).    Whenever the app is working like it is supposed to it is actually pretty awesome, but that doesn’t happen all of the time.  It seems to be really buggy most of the time and every single time you open up the app it looks for connected devices and doesn’t always find it.  While you are waiting, many times it will freeze on you or force close.  While it is pretty cool when it is working right, it really only just cuts down on the amount of taps you have to make, nothing life changing about it.

This Android app has been given a mediocre rating of 3.8 out of 5 stars because although there are a lot of cool things you can do, there are also a lot of bugs still to work out.  The app is free for you to download onto your phone.
